How much oil should be on a dipstick?

Checking your oil after removing the dipstick, you should see two marks, the “ADD” and “FULL” marks. These indicate your current oil levels, giving you direction to either replace or refill your oil. Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean, dry cloth before re-inserting it to check the level. When your oil is close to “ADD” you need to put more oil in, or you run the risk of damaging your engine.
