Which oil is the right type of oil for my car?
You can find a whole host of oils on the market, from fully synthetic to partially synthetic or just plain regular, but how do you know which one is right for you? A great place to start is your owners manual. It will always let you know which type of oil works best for your engine. Come see us Auto One if you’re not quite sure.
How much oil should be on a dipstick?
Checking your oil after removing the dipstick, you should see two marks, the “ADD” and “FULL” marks. These indicate your current oil levels, giving you direction to either replace or refill your oil. Remove the dipstick and wipe with a clean, dry cloth before re-inserting it to check the level. When your oil is close to “ADD” you need to put more oil in, or you run the risk of damaging your engine. However, your engine lubrication system is a closed system, meaning that if your oil is low, you will need to determine why. Usually, your engine is either burning or leaking oil. In both cases, your engine requires repair work. Engine lubrication is an essential part of engine maintenance and can save you thousands of dollars in costly repairs.
